USPA launching in Vancouver in January 2017

The USPA will further broaden its horizons in January 2017 when we hold a launch meeting in Vancouver. Sponsored by the Trowbridge Professional Corporation, the meeting is on Tuesday, 24 January, when we will be discussing the challenges presented by PFICs. Location to be confirmed. Please email Deborah if you would like an invitation.

USPA to launch in Toronto

On 13 November 2014, we are launching a branch of USPA in Toronto, to bring the benefits of closer co-operation between advisers to the US expat adviser community in eastern Canada. The meeting takes place at the Vault, One King West and we'll be discussing disclosure options. Email Deborah if you would like to attend.

All 104 tickets for the Gala Dinner at the Crypt in Ely Place sold out within a few days of going on sale. Many of our corporate members have taken a table, either to show their appreciation to key members of their staff - or to invite guests who may in turn become members of our burgeoning group.

Another sponsor joins us

Our January meeting is to be sponsored by former corporate member MASECO Private Wealth. Many thanks to that company for their continued and increasing support of USPA.

Press coverage of USPA

We decided to tell the world about USPA recently and received quite a bit of coverage in the legal and wealth management press, in particular. Lawyer Monthly, Citywire and International Adviser, Wealth Briefing and Wealthnet were among those featuring the group. As a result there have been a lot of enquiries about membership and we hope to see a number of new people at the forthcoming November meeting. Vestra US Wealth Management and Westleton Drake are joined as sponsor members by Satis Asset Management, who will be lead sponsor for the next USPA meeting at Whitechapel Gallery on 6 November. Many thanks to that company for their support.

Just room at the back on 3 July!

Lots of new members and guests attended the recent meeting of the group, when the key topic voted for by members was QROPS. The discussion moved on to the second favourite - the perennial issue of how to deal with clients who have filing arrears.

Membership hits 50!

The number of people entitled to attend future meetings has exceeded 50 inside the first month. Members come from all aspects of US client advisory; wealth and asset managers; tax consultants, tax lawyers, immigration and visa lawyers, employment lawyers, pensions consultants - the list goes on.

We're looking forward to an interesting discussion on US qualfying QROPs next week - over some American style canapes. We'll soon need bigger venues!

First meeting over subscribed!

The first meeting, on 15 May, has attracted more thn 40 responses and we have now had to open a waiting list for cancellations. A survey has been sent to all those who have responded asking them to rank four suggested topics in their order of preference. The result will be announced soon.

Following the May meeting, membership invitations will be sent out, with the membership year starting on 1 June.
